Student to Work with Nobel Winners
Navdar Sever, a senior student in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department, has been accepted to the Ph.D. program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. This may seem nothing out of the ordinary, as many Bilkenters pursue a Ph.D. abroad. However, what makes this case special is that Navdar will be working with Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein, who were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1985 for their work on cholesterol metabolism.

Cholesterol disorders cause a great many deaths in developed countries, and continued research in that area may lead to discoveries with important therapeutic value. Navdar says, "It's not so surprising that the cutting-edge education in our department gives students like me the chance to work with such distinguished researchers. All it takes is a little extra personal effort."
