İhsan Doğramacı to Meet Yeni Ufuklar
Yeni Ufuklar Klübü (YUK) (New Horizons Club) has invited Professor İhsan Doğramacı as a guest speaker to discuss the "Role of Students in Academic Administration." The event will take place at Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences (FEASS), C Block Auditorium on Thursday, October 21, at 1:30 p.m.

Do you want to know more about YUK? Five years ago, a few students thought about starting a club that would help them meet well-known people, network with Bilkent graduates, and improve their social skills (e.g., organizing panels, discussions, etc.). It is now an active club meeting on Wednesdays. The club has no hierarchical structure. In other words, everybody is a decision maker. The members say that the club allows them "turn their ideas into actions."

What do the members think is the best part of this club? They say that working as a team is a very valuable skill they have gained by joining this club. As an example, inviting a guest speaker involves making contacts, booking the room at the university, announcing the event on campus, and making sure that everything goes well. The students choose to take responsibility in any part of this process as a team member.

The club also arranges other activities, such as "aid campaigns" (as happened last year for Eastern Anatolia primary schools), or contacting some Bilkent graduates to learn more about careers after graduation.

What did "being a member of this club" contribute to people's lives? One member says that he feels more confident now in contacting a writer, or a politician since he has done it couple of times. Another member says "nothing seems impossible."

How are they going to integrate the skills they have gained from the club into their future jobs? They think that they will be good team members, will continue organizing social activities at work, and it will be easier for them to adapt to work environment. They also believe that the business and community leaders they have met will be valuable contacts for them in the future.
