Sertan Sancar, student at the Department of Music took first place in an exam given by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The twenty-year old horn player was found to be "very-talented" by the jury, and was offered a two-year studentship at the Orchestra's academy. By January, Sertan will take part in Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and hopes to be a permanent member of staff after two years.
Sancar also took top honors in Yılın Genç Müzisyenleri Yarışması (The Competition for the Young Musicians of the Year) which was organized by the Ministry of Culture in Turkey. He has attended many international festivals and has received a number of international awards. Sertan, who has also taken part in the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra for four years, has been studying under Mahir Çakar for the last ten years.
He will leave Ankara on December 22 to go the academy and is also planning to join the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra tours.
