On Sunday November 11, a group of people, mostly students and academic staff, participated in an eventful and enjoyable day of trekking in Işık Mountain. Tunç Fındık, a part-time instructor at Bilkent Sports Center, led the group of enthusiasts. Most people might know of Tunç as Ankara's operations leader at AKUT (the Search and Research Society). He is also an avid lover of nature and has been an active climber since 1983.
This semester Bilkent Sports Center, along with DOST Club, has organized trekking as a free monthly activity for all members of the Bilkent community. The trip to Işık Mountain was the first such activity. For the coming tour, the Sports Center recommends that everyone take part, as such activities are a fun and once in a lifetime experience. Besides, what harm can five to six hours of easy walking through pastures, forests, along riverbanks and country paths do? You will also enjoy many interesting sights on the journeys.
So all you nature lovers, get in touch with the Sports Center as Tunç Fındık will be giving a talk for tenderfoot trekkers on Tuesday, November 28 at FADA, FB-209, 12:30 p.m. The Sports Center can give you detailed information about the venue and date for the next trip, as well as information on what to wear and hints and suggestions about trekking. A list of required equipment will be provided by the Center.
So come on friends, get trekking and enjoy the benefits offered by our very own Sports Center.
Incidentally, did you know that next semester mountaineering classes will be a credit course? That's right, a mountaineering course in Bilkent! Students will have an even greater variety of sports activities to choose from and participate in. Details about this course will be given at the beginning of next semester.
