Teachers Receive Awards at BUSEL
|
The Teacher Training Unit at Bilkent University School of English Language (BUSEL) offers a wide range of in-service teacher-training courses and each year it holds an Awards Ceremony to present certificates and awards to those gaining qualifications. 60 certificates were awarded at this year's ceremony, which was held last week at the university.
During the evening, Professor Güliz Ger, Associate Provost, John O'Dwyer, Director of BUSEL and members of the Teacher Training Unit delivered speeches to teachers, trainers and guests. Their presentations were followed by a ceremony where certificates for the following qualifications were awarded:
- University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults: A high level and demanding practical teaching course which includes internally and externally assessed lessons, written assignments and an exam.
- UCLES Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English: This course aims at giving both practical and theoretical support to teachers who are relatively new to the profession.
- Cambridge Examination in English for Language Teachers, Level Two: This exam offers language teachers who are non-native speakers an opportunity to focus on and enhance their use of the English language.
- Continuing Development Course: An in-house course that prepares teachers to extend and refine their classroom practice through regular input sessions and lesson observations.
- Trainer Training Course: Unique in Turkey, this course aims to prepare experienced teachers for the training and mentoring of their peers.
In addition to offering BUSEL training courses and working with other units within the school, members of the Teacher Training Unit also lead course moderation, assessment and induction sessions for institutions who run UCLES courses here in Turkey, as well as in Greece, Switzerland, Northern Cyprus and Jordan.
