Nurhan Özlü, a fourth year student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, participated in a summer research study at the Max-Planck-Institute for Cell Biology in Germany. As a result of the research, she co-authored an article published in the respected Nature Magazine on November 16, 2000 (Vol. 408).
Nurhan received a research scholarship and spent three months in the Hyman Laboratory. The goal of the project was to accelerate the identification of the biological function of genes. The name of project was "Large-Scale functional genomic analysis of cell division in C.Elegans using RNAi".
After graduating from Bilkent University, Nurhan is planning to study the function of novel genes as a graduate student at the Hyman Laboratory. As she explains, summer research internships are good opportunities for students to arrange future academic plans. Nurhan also adds that it is important to choose such internships carefully, according to your interest.
