Children Thank Bilkenters

The Çocuk İşçiliğiyle Mücadele Kulübü, in partnership with the Anıttepe Rotary Club, organized a donation campaign in November to help three hundred working children of Diyarbakır. Özlem Uysaler, a third year Chemistry Engineering student at Hacettepe University, wrote a novel and donated the sales revenues to the campaign. A thousand books were sold; five hundred of them at Bilkent. From the book revenues the club was able to purchase 1 refrigerator, 1 photocopier, 636 notebooks, 1104 pencils, 312 sharpeners, 300 erasers, 1180 pairs of underwear, and 300 pairs of socks for the Diyarbakır Sokak Çocukları Merkezi. The board of Çocuk İşçiliğiyle Mücadele Kulübü was delighted with the interest and support of the Bilkent community to the project. The club hopes that enthusiasm will continue for further campaigns.
