Do you think math is only for mathematicians? If your answer is yes, perhaps you might want to consider attending the new colloquia offered by the Department of Mathematics this semester. As a part of the regular Friday colloquium series organized by the department, this new series of talks is intended for the general public, not just mathematicians. The aim of the colloquia is to show the interaction of math with other fields such as philosophy, physics, and so on.
The following colloquia have been scheduled this semester:
"A Computer Thinks Only If Its Thinking Can Be Understood By a Human Interpreter", by Prof. Varol Akman on March 30,
"The Interaction of Philosophy and Math", by Erdinç Sayan on April 27, and "The Interaction of Physics and Math", by Tekin Dereli on May 11.
All of the colloquia will be at
3:30 p.m. in the Science A Building, room 141. Contact Dr. Ergun Yalçın, Department of Mathematics at ext. 2601 for more information.
