Library Week Celebrated

The thirty-seventh annual Library Week will be celebrated from March 26 to April 1 at Milli Kütüphane (National Library) in Bahçelievler, Ankara and throughout the country. Conferences, panels, seminars, exhibits, concerts and other activities will be held throughout the week. At Bilkent, both the Main Library and East Campus Library will future Library Week in the display cases. The opening ceremony at the National Library will start at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26 with speeches from İstemihan Talay, Minister of Culture, as well as others.

The celebration of Library Week began in 1964 with panels, conferences and other activities during the last week of March, to inform the public about library facilities. Since then, librarians have been sharing ideas and information regarding improvement of library facilities in Turkey.

Bilkent University Library is a member of the organizing committee. Bilkent’s BLISS-CAT, a computerized catalog system for searching reference sources in libraries across Turkey, will be introduced on Wednesday, March 28, 10 a.m. during a panel on library automation software.
