Two International Relations students, Onur Özlü and Özüm Saydam received the Best Delegates award at the 10th Harvard World Model United Nations Conference at a ceremony at the İşbank Towers in İstanbul on March 28.
At least 750 students from universities such as Yale, Harvard, Oxford, MIT, Galatasaray and Boğaziçi, participated in this year’s conference hosted by Koç University in İstanbul. Student delegates representing the 65 members of the United Nations were responsible for implementing their countries’ policies to bring solutions to issues such as disarmament, decolonization, health, ethnic conflict, human rights, development, children and refugees.
As members of the Bilkent delegation representing Greece at the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, Onur Özlü and Özüm Saydam were selected the best delegates for successfully representing their assigned country and skilfully working in cooperation with other delegations for consensus. The two students acted as leaders during the simulation of a comprehensive resolution on ethnic conflict, which was unanimously adopted by the General Assembly.
Onur and Özüm have been invited as guests of honor to participate in the Euroforum Summit in April where university students will simulate the European Union and report their decisions as European Youth to the European Parliament. The Greek Ambassador in Ankara saluted the success of the students and invited them to a party to be held in their honor at the embassy.
