Bilkent’s second year students in the Department of Graphic Design have proven themselves to be successful contenders as they recently took the three top place awards in the graphic design contest for the 38th Altın Portakal Antalya Film Festivali (Golden Orange Film Festival). Nazlı Kaya won the first place award, and Sinan Günciner and Elif Onat received the second and third place awards, respectively.
Marek Brzozowoski and Emre Becer, who together teach the second year Graphic Design course, give their students a chance to test their skills in real world conditions by encouraging them to compete in various design competitions such as those for posters, logos, and postage stamps. Dr. Brzozowski and Dr. Becer believe that such competitions give students a unique chance to test themselves against competitors from other universities and often free-lance graphic designers, and work with tight deadlines and rigorous specifications.
The "experiment" has proven successful year after year, as the second year students continuously place and win prizes in many competitions. The "38th Altın Portakal Antalya Film Festivali" poster competition was the most recent example of their students taking top awards and being rewarded for their creativity and hard work.
