Don’t Miss the International Ankara Music Festival

Music lovers! The 18th International Ankara Music Festival, organized by Sevda Cenap And Foundation, started on Saturday, April 28 at Bilkent Concert Hall and will continue until May 16 at different locations in town. The Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra (from Turkey) and the Wiener Singverein Chorus (from Austria) opened the festival with a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony conducted by Gürer Aykal.

As another feature of the festival, Dimitris Sgouros will present a piano recital on Monday, April 30, at 8:30 p.m. at the Bilkent Concert Hall. The full schedule of performances and more details about the festival can be found at http://www.nevarneyok.com/ ankara/festival/festival.asp?FID=5

City Driving Changes

The Akay Intersection at Bakanlıklar is now fully open. Due to the opening, there are new regulations on street directions and parking rules in the city. The streets that have been affected from the new regulations are as follows: Kızılırmak, Olgunlar, Akyüz, Bağlayan, Belligün, Belkis, Büklüm, Akay, Bilezik, Balo, Beykoz, Binektaşı, Bağış, Bülten, Güniz, Buğday, Binnaz, Billur, Bekar, Boğaz, Tahran, Esat Bülbülderesi. Constitutional Court Comments on Head Scarves

The Constitutional Court of Turkey celebrated its 39th year on April 25, 2001. Mustafa Bumin, the President of the Court, addressed a variety of issues at its anniversary, one of which was the wearing of the head scarves at universities. Mr. Bumin said that the courts’ rulings do not allow the wearing of head scarves either in the universities or in public organizations.
