E-Resources Bring the Library to You
You don’t necessarily have to be in the library to use the library. A growing collection of electronic resources means that you can do some of your library research from home (if you are using your Bilkent account) or from any of the computer labs around campus, as well as in the Main Library’s Reference Room.

To begin, check out the library’s Online Databases collection. A current collection of 27 databases covers nearly all the subjects taught at the University. Online article databases provide a gateway to citations for articles in journals and newspapers. Databases such as EBSCOhost also include access to the full text of many of these articles. In addition to article databases, you can search for the roots of common and obscure English words in the Oxford English Dictionary Online, or find out the latest breaking news from the BBC Monitoring Service. The library’s Online Databases web page includes descriptions of all online databases to help you decide which one is best suited to your purposes.

The Electronic Journal collection has been growing by leaps and bounds recently, as well. With the addition of over 1200 scientific and technical journals through Science Direct, the library now makes nearly 1700 electronic journals available to Bilkent users. Journal titles cover a host of subject matter as well, with history, literature, economics, and political science represented in addition to scientific journals. A new electronic journals search engine is in the works in order to make navigating this growing collection easier.

New electronic resources are being added on a regular basis. The library conducts regular "trials" to determine how useful particular resources will be for the Bilkent community. These trials are announced on the library’s website. Your feedback on these trials, and on current electronic resources, helps the library determine which resources will be made available.
