IR Students Represent Bilkent at the European Youth Summit
The European Youth Summit, "Euroforum 2001" was held at Galatasaray University in İstanbul from April 12 to 16, with 400 students from various European universities attending. Organized by the European Union, the aim of the summit was to bring together European youth to discuss issues pertaining to the future of the European Union. Institutional reform of the EU, immigration to and citizenship rights in Europe, the economic restructuring of the EU, and its enlargement were among the issues discussed at the conference.

From Bilkent, Özüm Saydam and Onur Özlü participated at the conference as European Commissioners, while Meral Dülger, Sanem Aytekin, Burak Alıcı, Burç Yüceışık and Mine Oral (all IR students), were delegates to the European Liberal Democratic Party of the European Union Parliament. The Bilkent team contributed to the conclusion of declarations and youth covenants, which will be officially reported to the European Union Commission as the decisions of the European Youth. Onur Özlü of Bilkent received the "Future Leader of Europe" award at the end of the summit due to his accomplishments in cooperating with other delegates in reaching consensus on the drafting of a resolution to be submitted to the European Union, and for creating a document calling for a convention on the treatment of immigrants in Europe. He was also elected for the presidency of the European Commission at the Euroforum 2002.
