I am greatly honored to be selected to receive the distinguished Teaching Award. This award will crown my teaching career of twenty years at METU and the last twelve years at Bilkent University. I want to thank my department and fellow colleagues for providing a congenial atmosphere of teaching, and all my students and alumni for choosing me for this award.

I was very surprised to be honored with this award, and warmly thank the students who bestowed it upon me. Working at Bilkent for the last three years has been an enriching experience.
Dr. A. Hamit Sunel (SAL):
In my 35-year career there have been many times when I felt happy. But this has been a unique experience. I couldn't stop the tears in my eyes, and I felt a sense of pride after I found out that my students had chosen me for this award. I have never felt this happy and proud. In this university, where I hope to serve long years, I will do my best to be worthy of this award with which my students have honored me. This award, in addition to my books, is definetely the most precious legacy I am going to leave to my children.
