New Bilkenters Find Orientation Fun

This year, the orientation program was held between 18-21 September for newcomers to Bilkent University. The activities included information on departments, workshops, such as “Ways to Think”, “Importance of Perception”, “How to Use E-Mail and the Library”, “Interpersonal Communication”, a guided tour of Ankara, informative classical music and jazz concerts by BASSO, several sports activities, a slide show of nature pictures, a talk by Can Dündar on “University, Youth and Life”, and an open air barbeque party sponsored by Radio Bilkent. Just like last year's program, the orientation was a required course for the newcomers under the code ‘GE 100 Orientation’.
Ahmet Apaydın (MBG) participated in the “Ways to Think” workshop and the bicycle tour. He stated that he watched the movie ‘2001 Space Odyssey’ which he loved and has already joined Fantazi Kurgu Kulübü. “I found the workshop on the library and e-mail very useful, because I often see people who cannot log on to the computers in the labs” Ahmet added.
Aslı Altun (ELIT) actually participated with her family. “Thanks to this program, my family had a chance to get to know Bilkent University better. I made friends not only from my own department but also from other departments. Although I still have a semester at BUSEL, I already have all the information I need about my department.”
Ayşegül Turan (GRA) has completed the required orientation program and participated in most of the activities. “I took part in most of the workshops and my favorite one was ‘Drawing Comic Strips’. I have seen all the concerts and loved the atmosphere.”
Ali Can Yurtseven (IE) watched the movies ‘Matrix’ and ‘Million Dollar Hotel’. He says: “I learned more about the school environs and I found the seminar on my department very satisfying. Also the classical music concert was charming.”
