In Economics and Management, a well-known indicator of
research output is the number of articles published in journals
listed in the Social Science Citation Index of Philadelphia (SSCI).
According to the latest figures recently obtained for the year 2000,
Bilkent research output in this discipline is more than that of all
the remaining Turkish universities combined. The number of articles
published by Bilkent faculty totals up to 27. The remaining 72
universities produced a total of 23 articles. The production of new
knowledge in the field is one of the most important academic
activities of Bilkent professors: The Bilkent philosophy of
education is that those who are involved in the production of new
knowledge are also believed to be the best instructors to teach
their subject.
Prof. Erinç Yeldan, Chair of the Department of Economics, stated
that, “Our colleagues in Economics and Management clearly
established a track record of research and teaching excellence,
recognized not only in Turkey, but in the world academic community
at large. Given all the international academic standards, our
professors at Bilkent have by now earned a reputation of
professionalism and leadership in the scientific community.”
