Squash Courses Being Offered at the New Sports Center!

Squash is a relatively new sport in Turkey: a Squash Federation does not yet even exist. However, Bilkent has taken the first step towards introducing squash to the general population. There are three new squash courts at the new Sports Center which was opened on October 1, 2001. Equipped with the latest technology, the courts provide an environmentally controlled atmosphere for sport-lovers during all four seasons.
The Squash Orientation Program is now being offered by the Sports Center for beginners. Since squash is played on relatively narrow courts, if the proper techniques are not known, the racket or the fast-moving ball may cause injuries. The aim of this introduction class is to eliminate such possible injuries, to ensure safety, provide attendants with the basic rules of the game and introduce the materials to be used such as goggles and non-marking, soled shoes. These one-hour introductory sessions are also available in English.
In order to sign up, stop by at the new Sports Center. The schedule is as follows: Monday 7 p.m., 8 p.m.; Tuesday 3:40 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m.; Wednesday 7 p.m., 8 p.m.; and Thursday 5:40 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. Squash courses, tournaments and accredited classes, too, are being planned for next term.
Reservations are required for the three courts and squash gear (ball and racket only), may be checked out at the desk by non-beginners from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Please call the new Sports Center at ext. 1993 or 1651.
