PASO Students Film Festival Was Held

This year, the PASO Student Films Festival was held in the Ankara German Cultural Center between 18-21 October. The aim of this activity, which was hosted by the Bilkent University Department of Communications and Design and Ankara University Faculty of Communications, was to introduce student films, which rarely have a chance of being viewed by the general public. These movies are products of hard work and dedication and all have the potential to help the development of the art of cinema.
This year, the festival had not only national attendants but also international ones. Among these, was a group of ten students from the Film School of Leeds Metropolitan University. Invited by Andreas Treske, faculty member of Interior Design and Architecture, and guided by their professor, Denise York, these film students were active in Anglo-Turkish co-production films. Prof. York says: “This experience, not only involved producing films, but also encouraged group work. These movies all were brought alive in only a couple of days. Despite the differences in culture, language and perspective within the group, the students had no difficulty joining their powers. After all, they are all artists.”
This is the only festival of this kind, in which students work together, see what one another is doing and learn practically. Social activities and panels lasting hours, were organized ,with a theatre full of people, watching what had been produced and exchanging ideas on them.
