Bilkent Internship Programs a Big Success

The Dean of Students has organized an internship program whereby students work in several projects for non-governmental organizations. The duration of the internship program is a minimum of 20 days and volunteer students receive certification after completing their work.
The idea brought together many participants, such as Elif Çağış, a 4th year Political Science student, who completed the 2-month internship program at the History Foundation in İstanbul.
Çağış recalled her internship as a totally new experience, one which taught her a great deal about non-governmental organizations. She said she learned about the program through handouts in the Bilkent News, and then applied to several organizations, mostly located in İstanbul.
After the application process Çağış learned that the Turkish History Foundation was glad to welcome her for a 2-month period, during which she would be working on Organizational and Verbal History under the projects department. Elif notes “This internship taught me that volunteer work was carried out by professionals, not only volunteers”.
