“POP-EYED”

Have you ever wondered why people make such a big fuss over lying? Don’t get me wrong, I’m against lying as well and I believe, well okay, I admit I’ve learnt from past experiences that telling the truth usually has a better end result. But the things I lie about, or have to lie about, are not huge fat lies, they are what I like to call “white lies”, you know, harmless lies said in order to fix a situation or to save another persons’ feelings from getting hurt. But what I don't get is why some people make such a big fuss over it: “Oh I can’t believe you lied to me! I will never be able to trust you again!” Lets face it, we can’t always tell the truth. Imagine what kind of a world that would be “what do you think of my new hair?” “Actually I think it looks terrible, now your nose looks even bigger than ever, and oh I hadn’t realized your head was such a funny shape” or “Did you see how that chick was totally checking me out!” “Checking you out? Mate I think it’s time you got your eyes checked, she was practically drooling over me but you think you’re such a babe, man, that you didn’t even see the difference”.
Sometimes we have to lie; these kinds of lies are white lies, or rather innocent lies. If we always say what’s on our minds we are more likely to lose friends than gain them. So why do some people make a big deal out of these “white lies”? I believe that they are either so self-confident that they can take any kind of criticism coming at them, or they actually believe Pinocchio, don’t worry it was only a fictional story, its not true. Heck, if it weren’t for white lies the whole world would be in chaos… “Mr President, is it true that you are expecting a bigger earthquake to hit some time soon?” the truth or something like that would be… “Hell yeah… if I weren’t such a media figure, I’d be packing my bags and moving to a different country”..a white lie.. “Yes but don’t worry, our scientists have calculated the chances and it shouldn't be for another 50 years at least, and by then we will have fixed up all the buildings so no major damage will occur.” Now you tell me, which answer would you rather hear, even if it wasn’t 100 % true? So, next time think twice before getting angry at someone for telling a white lie, they might actually have a very plausible reason- or just be a modern Pinocchio = P hehe.
