Film Review:
“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”

Love, or money? And what if 10 days happens to be enough to find out that the person you have bet on is actually “the one”? Andie Anderson has to find a guy and commit all the mistakes women make in a relationship in order to write “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, an article for Composure, the magazine she works for. Meanwhile, Benjamin Barry bets that he can make any woman fall in love with him and bring her to the party of the Diamond Company, for the advertisement in which he is competing with two other women for.
Released one week before Valentine’s Day in America, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” was at the top of the box office list. However, in terms of its late release date in Turkey, it is an anachronism. This is simply a movie for those who are in the mood for a classic lighthearted love story mingled with a little bit of humor. Targeting especially the female audience rather than the male viewers, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” does not give more than it promises: a simple classic Hollywood romantic-comedy. As a matter of fact, the extensive use of so-called ”covert” but actually “overt” advertising and elements of Americanization disturbs the audience.
The cast is quite successful with the match of Hudson and McConaughey. We remember Kate Hudson mostly from last year’s brilliant drama “The Four Feathers” and Matthew McConaughey first from his leading role in “A Time to Kill” and most recently from the romantic-comedy “The Wedding Planner”. The decreasing pace of fun in the second half prepares the audience for a happy ending with the height of romance between this couple. To escape from daily problems, this is a light romantic comedy alternative.
