Student Union Seeks Volunteers

Student Union executive members are elected by the student body and act as a liason between the students and the university administration. One of the objectives of the Student Union is to increase the number of student clubs in order to help create a more active and social student life. But the Student Union helps you in your academic life as well as your social life. “We invite all students to come and meet with their Student Union Representatives, participate in Student Union projects and join Bilkent’s numerous clubs. We welcome all students and would be very happy to listen to their problems and their ideas” says Turgay Demirel, the Student Union President.
The Student Union has started work on its ideas for the new academic year. One of their projects is the TDP (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri), which has been run by Bilkent volunteer students since 2000. The TDP allows students to volunteer in several activities such as tutoring elementary school students in underprivileged areas, teaching sports, art, and computer classes, or visiting elderly people in retirement homes. Volunteering can be a very fulfilling activity, especially when you see what kind of difference your own work makes. The Student Union Executers invite Bilkent students to participate in the TDP project and to brighten up someone else's life.
To conclude, why should you become a volunteer?
- To discover what service learning is;
- To gain a new perspective on the world;
- To try out a possible future career or gain experience in a new field;
- To learn about yourself and develop leadership skills;
- To have fun and make new friends.
