The Bilkent University Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, established in 1988, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with events planned to take place throughout 2018. The first of these was held on March 30, with a get-together for students, graduates, and current and retired instructors of the department at the Clubhouse Jazz Bar of the Sheraton Ankara Hotel and Convention Center.
The Sheraton was a most appropriate venue to kick off the celebration, given the number of Bilkent THM graduates who work there. They include Kaan Tulga (’97), sales director; Yasemin Yaman (’03), complex corporate sales manager; Candan Eren (’05), meeting and events coordinator; Aybars Dayan (’10), sales specialist; Nilüfer Cebe (’11), group and event sales manager; İrem Yılmaz (’11), complex corporate sales manager; Murat Ersoy (’12), receiving clerk; Nuriye Kurt (’12), junior floor supervisor; Ahmet Türkmenoğlu (’12), income audit; Melis Bilenoğlu (’16), accounts receivable; and Yağız Sonmay (’17), corporate and events sales representative.
Bilkent THM was established as the first department within a private institution of higher education in the country to provide instruction in tourism and hotel management, in accordance with the vision of university founder Prof. İhsan Doğramacı regarding the importance of tourism for Turkey. The celebratory events to be held this year will not only mark three decades of existence for the department, but also provide an opportunity for its main stakeholders to solidify and extend their network.
