Each year, Turkey celebrates celebrates national Tourism Week from April 15 to 22. In conjunction with this year’s Tourism Week, a meeting of academics and representatives from both the public and private spheres with an interest in or authority over the tourism sector took place at the practice restaurant of the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Le Piment Rouge, on April 19.
Those in attendance included Ankara Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kamil Özer, along with officials, executives and managers from the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), the Ankara Anatolian Tourism Administrators Association (ATİD), the Ankara Touristic Hoteliers Association (ANTOD), the Ankara Chamber of Tourist Guides (ANRO) and the Tourist Guides Federation (TUREB).
The meeting, which brought industry representatives and educators together in an informal setting to network and discuss issues related to tourism, also featured a seminar focused on the importance of education, promotion and marketing for Turkey’s tourism industry. Mr. Özer, TÜRSAB Central Anatolia Regional Executive Committee representatives Engin Şahin and Ercan Durmuş, ANTOD Secretary General Esra Çeviker, ATİD President Birol Akman and TUREB Head Ahmet Zeki Apalı gave presentations to an audience that included students and faculty members from Bilkent, Gazi and Hacettepe universities.
