The Bilkent Outdoor Sports Society (DOST) training courses, which cover the principles and techniques of rock climbing and other outdoor sports, are underway—and club members have already had a great opportunity to try out their skills. During the bayram holiday, the club joined the Petzl RocTrip during its stop at Bafa Lake near the village of Kapıkırı in Milas, representing Bilkent as one of the university outdoor sports clubs participating in the excursion.
The annual RocTrip is a major and eagerly awaited event for the international climbing community. Sponsored by Petzl, a France-based manufacturer of work-at-height equipment, headlamps and climbing and caving gear, the RocTrip has over the last twelve years traveled to Asia, South America, Western Europe and North America in order to explore different climbing areas.
This year’s trip explored the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. Bafa Lake, which served as RocTrip’s Base Camp No. 8, is a site perfectly suited for bouldering, a type of climbing; the area is also known for its unequalled natural beauty and historical interest.
At the forefront of the RocTrip was the Petzl Team, a group of professional climbers who have climbed the world’s hardest routes and tested the company’s products. For DOST members, joining them in Bafa and climbing with them was an unforgettable experience.
