On Thursday, October 23, the Bilkent Political Thought Club organized a lecture by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The topic of Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu’s talk was “CHP’s Solutions for the Kurdish Issue.”
The event attracted tremendous interest from both students and the media. Almost 800 Bilkenters packed Mithat Çoruh Auditorium for the lecture; many others watched on television screens set up outside the lecture hall. Rector Abdullah Atalar, Vice Rector Kürşat Aydoğan and many faculty members, along with a number of journalists, were among those in attendance in the auditorium.
The lecture opened with brief remarks by Dr. İlker Aytürk, the academic counsel of the Political Thought Club, and Ali Yağız Baltacı, chairman of the club. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu then gave his speech, after which he answered questions from members of the audience.
Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu shared his opinions about the Kurdish issue and talked about his party’s solutions regarding it. He also made an analogy between the Bilkent Political Thought Club and Turkey’s politicians, saying, “Politicians should be like the Political Thought Club. They might have differing ideas, but they should still respect each other.”
