The Department of Music celebrated the opening of its Studio for Electroacoustic Music (BUSEAM) last month with a two-day event held at Saygun Concert Hall in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Design.
On January 11, music department faculty and students demonstrated the studio’s eight-channel sound diffusion system by playing their own compositions as well as some classics of the electroacoustic genre. On the following day, a concert featured student projects from the COMD527 Creative Sound Design and Synthesis course. The projects integrated music synthesis with live interactive visuals.
BUSEAM was founded to provide a place for the creation and production of experimental music as well as a forum for research into emerging creative technologies. The studio aims to extend Bilkent’s strengths in the area of technology and innovation into the field of music and will serve as a hub for collaborative work involving different departments and fields. The Department of Music will offer two consecutive courses (MSC487 and MSC587) to students in all departments who would like to experiment with sound and expand their artistic toolkits.
