Every year, the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management hosts a number of events as part of the national Tourism Week celebrated in Turkey on April 15–22. As usual, this year’s events included a luncheon at the THM practice restaurant, Le Piment Rouge, on April 18. Among those in attendance were Çankaya District Governor Hüdayar Mete Buhara and Ankara Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kamil Özer, along with academics, officials, executives and managers from both private and public organizations including the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), the Ankara Anatolian Tourism Administrators Association (ATİD), the Ankara Touristic Hoteliers Association (ANTOD), the Ankara Chamber of Tourist Guides (ANRO), the Tourist Guides Federation (TUREB), Hacı Bayram Veli University, Hacettepe University, the Ankara Club, Radisson Blu Hotel Ankara, Park Inn by Radisson Ankara, Holiday Inn Ankara Çukurambar and the Commerce Hotel.

On the afternoon of the same day, Mustafa Siyahhan, an instructor in the department and former counsellor for culture and tourism in Copenhagen, Denmark; counsellor for tourism in Washington DC, USA; and general director of marketing and tourism promotion and EU permanent contact point for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Turkey, gave a lecture in the THM banquet room on the topic of smart tourism.
