Berna Kaya, a 2013 graduate of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, recently received a National Scholar Award from United European Gastroenterology (UEG), a professional organization that brings together European societies concerned with digestive health. The award was presented at UEG Week, a congress that attracts approximately 14,000 attendees from around the world each year. This year’s UEG Week took place in Barcelona last month.
The National Scholar Award is given to one early career researcher 35 years of age or younger per country. Ms. Kaya, who is a PhD student at the University of Basel, received the award for Switzerland. She is conducting her doctoral research in the area of intestinal immunity.
