Bilkent graduate Sefaattin Tongay (PHYS/MS ’04), currently an associate professor and chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Arizona State University in the US and the editor of Applied Physics Reviews, is among the recipients of the 2019 Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.Established in 1996, the PECASE program acknowledges the contributions scientists and engineers have made to the advancement of science, technology, education and mathematics education and to community service as demonstrated through scientific leadership, public education and community outreach. The program is coordinated by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in partnership with participating government departments and agencies.
