WHAT’S HOT AND WHAT’S NOT AT THE MOVIES? |
Hey ardent movie addicts! I am sure most of you had the time
to watch loads of movies, one after another, on the silver screen during the
holidays. Like you guys, I also watched some movies and put my time to good use.
To be honest, although I saw a movie of Nicholas Cage’s last year, it seemed as
if I hadn’t seen a movie of his for years. His acting makes me greedy for more!
Hehehe (!) His latest movie, “Matchstick Men” is currently at cinemas across
Turkey and debuted on November 28.
Matchstick Men is directed by Ridley Scott and I think it would be easier for
you guys to remember him if you bring “The Gladiator” to mind, since he directed
this film (in 2000). In his current movie, Ridley Scott has a nice cast. 1995
Academy Award winner (in a leading role) Nicholas Cage, Alison Lohman (played in
White Oleander in 2002) and Sam Rockwell (played in The Green Mile in 1999). The
story develops around a gang of swindlers, including two members, Roy (Nicholas
Cage) and Frank (Sam Rockwell). After a while, Roy’s daughter Angela (Alison
Lohman) joins the story and everything gets messed up. The scenario is not that
strong and lacks fluent expression. This could be a good reason for my
disappointment although the film by no means was bad. Some parts were extremely
enjoyable whereas others simply bored me.
However, I think the strong acting camouflaged some of the weaker parts of the
movie. There is no need to say anything about Nicholas Cage’s acting (respect to
masters). Sam Rockwell was good too but I want to particularly mention Alison
Lohman. Actually, she is one of my favorites among the actresses in her age
group. She bewitched me with her acting in White Oleander (2002) in which she
performed with various successful actresses like Michelle Pfeiffer and Renée
Zellweger. In Matchstick Men, she was very good, too.
I feel it necessary to give you guys a little hint about what to expect as far
as the ending is concerned, be ready to be surprised! However, if you want to
see some good acting without huge expectations on scenario, then give yourself a
break and watch this movie. The movie is currently playing at all well known
movie theaters in Ankara.
