Buket Kartal, a Music Preparatory School student at Adnan Saygun Music Research and Education Center, was chosen by the European Piano Teachers Association in Belgium as a finalist in the “Rencontres Internationales des Jeunes Pianistes” contest, which was held between November 27 and 30.
The 5th Rencontres Internationales des Jeunes Pianistes contest, organized by the European Piano Teachers Association, is one of the most prestigious music contests in Europe. This year there were 57 international contestants participating in the contest which was held in solo and four hand piano categories.
Kartal performed pieces from J. S. Bach, Haydn, Chopin and Ýlhan Baran at the contest and received a great deal of recognition from the jury in the 10-14 age group. She was the only pianist from Turkey in the contest and received an invitation to Lithuania in August 2004 for another contest. Prof. Raduslav, who is one of the important names on the jury, also congratulated and invited her to perform in Prag.
