AN EXTRAORDINARY BIOPIC

Are we always responsible for what we do? Do you guys ever feel that there are times when you cannot control your life? Do you believe that under difficult circumstances, human beings might be forced to do things that they really don’t want to do? Those are the only times in which people strongly feel fear I guess. Just like Aileen Wuornos did. When she was arrested, she claimed to have killed her clients only in self-defense, resisting violent assaults while working as a prostitute.
The last movie I watched caused me to earn a broader view of the difficulties of such lifestyles. I think watching a film that is based on a true story is a good reason for the way I feel. In my opinion, the movie “Monster” was a great biopic of the miserable life of a prostitute. I cannot deny how much I was affected by the story of Aileen Wuornos. For your information, A. Wuornos was an American highway prostitute who was executed for killing 6 of her clients during sexual acts in Florida, between 1989 and 1990. The movie tries to shed light on the reasons behind Aileen’s killing 6 of her clients and her miserable life. I think being treated roughly by your clients, being excluded from society and feeling completely alone in that society may negatively effect many human beings’ psychology. Since most of the details in the movie represents something that happened in the past, you kind of thank God for having just an ordinary life.
In the movie, the leading role is played by South African beauty Charlize Theron. I think she definitely deserves to be rewarded more for her Oscar caliber performance in this movie. Actually I believe, through the movie Monster, Charlize Theron has shown her best performance ever. For your information, C. Theron won “The best actress” Golden Globe Award with her role in Monster. Thus, it will not be a surprise if she wins the “Actress in a leading role” Oscar on the 29th of Feb. when the 76th Annual Academy Awards will be given. Nevertheless, I cannot deny the performance of Christina Ricci.
She was also impressive with the way she characterized Selby (the best friend of Aileen). Besides these mind blowing performances, there is one thing that I should inform you about. Aileen Wuornos was having a bisexual relationship with her best friend Selby (played by C. Ricci) although she was not a lesbian. During the first part of the movie, the director focused on this and she kind of exaggerated the lesbian issue in some scenes. I think some of you might really feel uncomfortable, but I hope this will not prevent you guys from watching the film because what the movie tries to emphasize is definitely, not solely different sexual preferences. I strongly advise everyone to get out and watch this film. Enjoy!
