Volleyball is Back!!!

A very important week is coming up for the Bilkent Volleyball Teams! The volleyball tournament will commence next week at METU and our teams are currently holding matches against various university teams in order to get ready for the upcoming official matches.
The match series started last Saturday in the Başkent University Sports Hall with the women’s match. The thrilling event ended with the win going to Bilkent by a score of 2 sets to 1, as the Bilkent side did a better job at offensive combinations. The men were next to go, and again it was our side who won by the very same score. Although Bilkent was never really challenged, the last set was the one to determine the winner and our team served well enough to get the crucial points.
On Sunday, the Bilkent teams played against the teams from İzzet Baysal University in the Student Dormitories Sports Hall. After the first two sets, the sides were tied; the last two sets settled the results, however, as the Bilkent women cruised to a victory with a score of 3 sets to 1. Just like the previous time, the match between the men ended with the same score, however this time the winner was the İzzet Baysal University team. After some encouraging blocks, the Bilkent side won the second set and thus made it 1-1, but they could not keep up the pace in the remaining sets and lost the game 3 sets to 1.
The last of the practice matches took place at Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun. The first set was about to end with our lead when the referee made rather a biased decision, thus allowing the other side to win by 26-24. The Ondokuz Mayıs side proved to be better in the second and the third set, as they made various combinations on offense. Nevertheless, we congratulate both of our teams and wish them the best of luck for the upcoming tournament. All Bilkent students are encouraged to support our volleyball teams.
