SOMETHING SPECIAL…

LA bouncy attractive girl, her successful divorcee-writer mom (who is resigned to an empty bed), a 63 year old blithely happy bachelor (who dates only women in their thirties), and a handsome doctor… These four funny and unrelated characters come together in the brand new romantic-comedy "Something's Gotta Give". Among your several alternatives, this movie by Nancy Meyers (She also directed "What Women Want") is worth the money to see.
Something's Gotta Give is a story of two leading characters who find love and passion in each other, at such a time where they both gave up the hope of finding their soul mates. Since these leading characters are played by Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson along with other famous players like Amanda Peet, Keanu Reeves and Francis McDormand, who though at times seem like window dressing, they do make contributions in some parts of the film.
The movie was more about watching the funny and romantic acting between Nicholson and Keaton, penned by writer-director Nancy Meyer. I think they were completely compatible with their roles and that Jack and Diane work better than the movie. You cannot imagine how successfully they use their body language surrounded by Nancy Meyers' sense of humor that includes several Viagra and menopause gags for this film. With their cutesy and bashful acting performances, Nicholson and Keaton seem funnier than they are supposed to be. It is really worth seeing what it would be like if elderly people hit on each other. Believe me; it's so funny, especially when sex is used-in a sarcastic way-as one of the strongest issues.
Nonetheless, their perfect use of body language leads to funnier scenes where the dialogue may not seem that funny. Actually, there is this one scene where Keaton keeps crying because she was ditched for another woman. Although Keaton's crying may sound pathetic, it is one of the more humorous scenes of the movie with the funniest noises Keaton makes. In addition to these, you probably remember from the trailer that there is this scene where Nicholson sees Keaton naked. It was the funniest scene for me because Nicholson says "Oh God! I am so sorry! I am really sorry" twice. The first time he means it, but the second, he sarcastically points out what he accidentally saw. It was so very funny considering the person Nicholson characterizes dates only women around thirty.
Something's gotta give…hand over your money and watch this one!
