The Streets of Ankara

Turan Güneş (1921 - 1982)
Prof. Güneş was a graduate of Galatasaray Lycee and University of Istanbul Law School, along with a Ph.D. from the Law School of Paris, (1954-1957). Turan Güneş was a member of the parliament from the Democratic Party. Following the merging of the Hürriyet Party (which he took place in founding) with the CHP (The People’s Republican Party), he became one of the key politicians of CHP after 1961. He also taught at the School of Political Science as a Professor.
During his years as the minister of
Foreign Affairs, the 1974 Cyprus Peace Action took place. The famous sentence, “Ayşe went on vacation” was used as the password for the second “Peace Operation” on 14 August 1974. He was the deputy Prime Minister in the Second Bülent Ecevit government. Even after the parliament was dismembered on September 12, 1980 he kept on representing Turkey in the European Council.
