Mustafa, who has a desirable wealthy life with his attractive wife and his son, is the manager of an advertising company. Life always seems peaceful and happy to him… Until that unexpected car accident which takes his wife from him. Unfortunately, his wife not only passed away but also left many questions behind her which surround the injured stranger who was also in the car during the accident. From that moment on, Mustafa’s life makes a u-turn and results in surprising consequences. What I am talking about is the new movie, “Mustafa Hakkında Herşey”, from Çağan Irmak who says that this movie represents what he wants to do on the wide screen.
Because of some unrelated details in the story, I cannot claim that this film has a strong scenario. For instance, the director tried to define the god-like behaviors of Mustafa using the class differences among people. Since Mustafa’s character is strong and rich, he tries to have control over everything through constantly insulting everything. I believe, the director exaggerated his point of view and made the insults seem banal. However, there is a successful psychological correlation with the current dilemma of Mustafa and his childhood where the story turns around Mustafa and the stranger’s relations. This correlation, later on, sheds light on Mustafa’s childhood secrets and completes the gaps in the story.
Although the scenario is slightly weak, successful editing straightens out the movie. Moreover, the film is supported with a really good usage of camera movements. This movie was more like a horror based drama, and the camera techniques used are very compatible with the scenes. Actually, the sudden fast and slow camera movements in one of the scenes, where Mustafa suffers from a nightmare, was really good and kind of resembled “The Ring”. In addition, the shooting techniques helps you to focus on only one character at a time rather than both (The technique is commonly known as an over the shoulder shot). The production designer also did a pretty god job because the believability and compatibility of the scenery with the scenario was very successfully accomplished in most scenes. Nonetheless, the dense usage of suburban language styles in the second part of the movie, that included daily language sarcasm makes some scenes funny although they are supposed to be taut. As a conclusion, considering the movie as a whole, it is worth seeing.
