“POP-EYED”

Thats it I’ve had enough! Ankara is cold, cold, cold, and you know what, I’ve been here for four years and it hasn’t gotten any warmer! Actually, sometimes it gets even colder, like those of you who were here last year will remember, we had quite a winter. Now, why am I saying all this and getting you depressed when it’s still pretty sunny outside? (sniff sniff) Well, this weekend I was in Antalya (oooooohhh). You know it’s true that a person never realizes how lucky they are unless they can experience the opposite or have a chance to compare it. Antalya was warm and sunny and the students at Akdeniz University were walking around in t-shirts an shorts, all ready to go to the beach.
Where, as back in the real world of Ankara, we have already started wearing long sleeves and cardigans to keep ourselves warm (sniff sniff ). I thought this was totally unfair! I mean, why couldn’t Ankara be located where Antalya is, we are the capital of Turkey after all! And heeeey, respect here please! We deserve the good weather! Sitting in a total state of depression at the beach with fellow university friends, wetting my feet in the oh so warm sea, the beautiful green scenery behind me and feeling the sun on my shoulders, I thought to myself that there must be something wrong with this!
If I couldn’t have this life then I would have to find all of the disadvantages with living in such a wonderful area. (smart thinking hey? ) Okay, first of all who needs a beach near a university? Not us! Why? Imagine if we had a beach , nobody would be on campus and just as logically, nobody would attend classes! Everybody would be on the beach swimming, getting the perfect tan and partying! To put it simply, we would forever be living in a state of summer holidays. Never being allowed to be serious and doing the things we are doing at the moment, because for most of us, sunny weather equals too much fun I’m sure you’ll agree with me, (you better it will make us all happier in the end) that “real life” is not full of sunny weather and that’s why Ankara is situated in Ankara.. It’s so that we see every kind of weather and can adapt ourselves to any situation. Duhhhh…see sometimes feeling frozen and slipping on ice ain’t so bad because it’s done for a good cause- to get us ready for every situation that life may bring. So what do we say now, thank goodness that Bilkent is situated in Ankara and it gets cold, sometimes =P!
