Bilkent Etiquette
|
Are you a true Bilkenter? Yes I know, you are a student here, but do you qualify to be a Bilkenter? I hear you say, “Since I have been accepted…!” Well, maybe I did not make myself clear enough! I think it would be better if I gave you the tidbits of what it takes to be a true Bilkenter, then you can check if you have become one. Here is the list of qualifiers, also known as “Bilkent Etiquette”:
I do not smoke
I do not litter campus grounds and/or classrooms or anywhere on or off campus
I am a safe driver on or off campus
I stop at the pedestrian crossings when I drive
I get into line at the bus-stops/eateries
I make sure to leave enough distance between myself and the person who is using an ATM machine so that the person will not feel uncomfortable by feeling my breath on his/her neck
I turn off my cellular phone in the classrooms, in the library, and in the labs
I try to keep my cellular phone conversations on buses to the shortest time and lowest voice possible
I don’t carry on a conversation with my classmates when the instructor lectures
I don’t cheat or plagiarize during the exams or assignments
Easy, huh? If you are missing one, that’s OK, there is always room for improvement. If you are missing two, then try a little harder to live up to the expectations. If you are missing three, then be careful and waste no time becoming a true Bilkenter. If you are missing four or more, well, maybe you should see a counselor for help!
