Interview with Nil Karaibrahimgil
|
Nil Karaibrahimgil was at Bilkent University as a part of the “Hazır Kart” concert series last week. The concert started at 6:30 p.m., and after the concert, Bilkent News was offered a short interview with her.
BN: What do you think about the audience and atmosphere at Bilkent University?
Nil: The concert and the audience was really nice, and everything was great here at Bilkent. We have been to several universities, where there was more or less the same amount of enthusiasm at each. This one was also great.
BN: During the concert you said that you are preparing a new album; can you tell us about that?
Nil: In the new album we are again working with Ozan Çolakoğlu. The album will hopefully be released in January 2004. All the songs are ready, so now we are working on the arrangements.
BN: What do you think about university life and being a university student?
Nil: In this sense, I was very lucky. I had the opportunity to receive my education in a university as beautiful as Bilkent. I studied at Boğaziçi University. I obtained my BA degree in six years, so I know university life very well. In my opinion university education improves ones personality in many ways. Above all, you don’t go to school as an obligation. It is not somewhere that you have to wear a uniform or which tries to standardize you.
I was very happy during those years. I read a lot, I took the courses I was interested in, including courses from other departments. I graduated from the Department of International Relations.
I also learned about psychology, sociology, philosophy, even quantum physics… Thus, I consider those years very fine ones and
I learned a lot. I couldn’t become a diplomat, but all the things that I learned added something to my personality, and to my lyrics; I have more self-confidence now as a result of those years. This is reflected in my music too. This is something that will support me through out my life. I think university motivates you in the sense that you can always improve your potential. Eventually you forget most of what you have learned, sometimes right after the final exam, but what remains can be considered as part of your stance in life. Learning English is also a part of this. In my opinion, all of these things are very important.
