What’s Hot and What’s Not at the Movies?

I have news for those who are big fans of Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg and the South African beauty Charlize Theron. Oh!!! How could I forget to say Mini Coopers? I am sure most of you have realized what I am talking about. Yeah! It is “The Italian Job” which is a USA made movie which debuted on October 10. The director, F. Gary Gray, who also directed the movie
“A Man Apart” and which is still being shown simultaneously with “The Italian Job” in many movie theatres. The cast of “The Italian Job” includes Charlize Theron, Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton and Mark Wahlberg. This film is about a robbery that is committed for revenge rather than money. Actually, we are familiar with robbery based movies since about a year ago we saw “Ocean’s Eleven” directed by Steven Soderbergh. There are some interesting similarities between these movies such as; they both include well-known actors and actresses, they are both about a big robbery and they were both first filmed in the 1960’s, but are currently being re-released in their new form.
After watching “The Italian Job”, I felt like: “Although there were really exciting action scenes, it is not possible for the movie to go beyond its commercial aim in filming”. Seems like F. Gary Gray is running out of money! I believe the director uses his famous cast and strong action scenes including, the legendary car, the Mini Coopers, in order to distract the audiences’ attention from the real issue in that the scenario is nothing new. None the less, I believe, this movie seemed to be a good chance for Theron and Wahlberg to show that they are still alive, but this does not work for Norton. Norton fans know how great he was in his role in the “25th Hour”; but it is hard to say the same thing for his role in “The Italian Job”. I don’t think he is characterizing an individual who needs strong acting which results in Norton’s acting being rather weak.
Moreover, the film will make you think: “Oh come on! Is it really so easy to commit this type of robbery?” Well it is obvious that there are some exaggerated scenes, but still, there still remains the exciting chase scenes, the beautiful cast and a good sense of humor gives you ample reason to watch this movie. If you want to have a fast and an exciting evening without strong expectations, then “The Italian Job” would be a good choice for you. The movie is currently being shown at all well-known movie theatres in Ankara.
