Music- Food for the soul. Yesterday I was reading when I came upon this statement. It got me thinking about the importance music actually has on our lives and in fact our personality. First of all, how can a person describe music? What makes sounds so enjoyable? And how can one set of sounds be enjoyable to a certain group while it becomes nothing but ‘noise’ to another?
I can’t say that I understand a lot about music, but I trust myself on what kinds of sound - music - when put together effects people in different ways. Intrigued by these questions I starting reading books about commercialism and physiology because, I knew that the most effective way of persuading a person or making them feel a rush of emotions subconsciously, was through the music being played in the background. For example, have you ever wondered why fast and happy songs are played at fast food restaurants or at supermarkets? It’s done so that you make quick decisions without thinking much about it. Therefore, you end up buying more than you actually needed; all the time in a happy carefree mode because the music is fast and happy. Funny isn’t it. The way we are controlled and the decisions we make are in fact actually made for us through the music being piped into our ears. When you are at the doctor’s office, the music being played in the background is soft and soothing, why? Well going to the doctors is not like going to the circus. Waiting to be called in from the waiting room is nerve racking and you don’t know what kind of needles and prescriptions may be waiting for you. But for some reason ever time you sit there you feel comfortable and relaxed.
Did anybody there make you feel like that? Did they give you candy to trick you and make you forget why you’re actually there? It’s all music folks, music. We are being tricked and used by it. Don’t believe me? Okay, then I want you to watch two different concerts and the mood that people are in after the concerts. Those who have been listening to classical music will be in a very harmonic and sensitive mode, talking softly, seeing everything more emotionally and pretty much in a romantic frame of mind. Those who have just gotten out of a rock concert will be feeling a rush of emotions, wanting to do this and that, acting spontaneously and talking loudly. What if it was the same person who gave these two different reactions..?
Music is food for our souls because we are fed the emotions or thoughts by other people through background music. Learn how to use and control it, you could rule the world :).
