COMD Graduates Receive Awards |
Esef Işık (COMD/'04) and Berk Tokay (COMD/'02), two
graduates from the Department of Communications and Design, received awards for their
films at the "International Competition - Festival of Students' Performances and
Film" held at Shota Rustavelli State University in Tiflis, Georgia. Esef Işık won
the best screenplay award for his film "Comic Book," and Berk Tokay won the
special nomination of the jury for his film "Heart Stopping."
For his first film, "Comic Book," Esef Işık not only wrote the screenplay but
also served as director. The main character of the film is a lonely boy who doesn't like
regular books but is devoted to comic books and reads them everywhere: at school, in
class, at a park. "It took two months to finish the screenplay of 'Comic Book.' The
most important things when you are writing a screenplay are to think in the language of
film and to find an interesting ending. That's what I did," says Esef.
He is currently finishing his second film and working on a new screenplay. As for his
longer-range plans, the aspiring writer-director states, "I want to work in cinema
professionally in the future. I also want to direct my own films because I believe the
best director of a film is its screenplay writer."
