"BEHIND THE SCENES"

Hey! I hope you're still eager to see movies after having started the new academic year. You know -- lectures, assignments and quizzes have all started to appear. :-D Those of you who've started to do assignments, quizzes and more, don't panic, ok? There are no problems, no worries.

This week you'll be able to see various movies, so you won't have to be stuck in academic stuff. For instance you can see "Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow" (director and screenwriter: Kerry Conran), where everything in the movie other than the actors is digital illusion. The actors did most of their scenes in front of a blue screen, which was later on replaced with images generated on computers. According to the trailers, I can definitely say that the movie has a "comic-book world" atmosphere. Synopsis: Famous scientists around the world have mysteriously disappeared. Chronicle writer Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) and ace aviator Sky Captain (Jude Law) set out to investigate this. Our heroes are aided by Captain Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie) and technical genius Dex (Giovanni Ribisi) throughout their travels to exotic places as they risk their lives in order to stop Dr. Totenkopf, the evil mastermind. Some critics find the movie a technical masterpiece, while others find it just a cheap contrivance. Let's see whether Sky Captain and his team will save the world or not….

Another movie that you can see this week is "Yazı Tura" by Uğur Yücel. Most people were expecting him to appear as the director of a movie and finally he has. "Yazı Tura" takes place in Turkey in 1999. It tells the stories of two young men who went into the army together and fought in southeastern Anatolia. Both had dreams and expectations for their future lives; however, they forgot the reality that life is not fair sometimes. Uğur Yücel states, "I do not wish for the audience to get back to life immediately after they watch the film. I want to disturb them, leave a trace, leave a silent impact on them. I wanted to shoot my personal point of view without struggling to be new and different. Did something new come out of there? I hope so." The film seems to be really cool, a synthesis of the 1999 Marmara earthquake and the political chaos and argument between Turkish and Kurdish citizens. This movie could be a very good one for those of you who want to see Uğur Yücel's point of view.

Also, you might like to see a movie that tries to elicit sympathy for animals. "Two Brothers" shows us the tragedy that two baby tigers have to endure because of the actions of human beings. This movie is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, who came to the attention of movie-goers with "L'ours" (Ayı) in 1988. I am sure "Two Brothers" will also take us deep into wild nature.

Action lovers will perhaps enjoy seeing "The Punisher," also now showing at the cinemas. "The Punisher" is a revenge story. The hero works for the FBI. His family is killed, and he sets out to punish the murderers. Hehe… I don't like the scenario since it's just a simple Hollywood story, but the action might be worth seeing. Who knows? All you have to do is simply choose the movie that satisfies your needs best. Have fun and stay cool.
