PROLOGUE TO MY PERSPECTIVE

The Þahan phenomenon started last year. That was when he began doing his own program, whose title includes his name: "Dikkat Þahan Çýkabilir." His talent is undeniable; he makes people laugh in a very ingenious way. He is currently a TV star, he is popular and successful, and most importantly, he is a graduate of the Bilkent Department of Theater. I interviewed Þahan Gökbakar via the internet about his program and plans.

-Bilkent News: How were your student years at Bilkent?
-ÞG: They were quite nice, I love Bilkent very much. I still visit Bilkent every time I come to Ankara.
-Bilkent News: After graduation, what other things did you do in addition to "Dikkat Þahan Çýkabilir"?
-ÞG: Nothing, really. Many times, I felt suffocated. But I never gave up; I produced new projects.
-Bilkent News: Did youexpect this much attention?
-ÞG: I do what I do by taking pleasure in it. The attention comes afterwards. Of course, I didn't expect this much attention this quickly.
-Bilkent News: Do you have any plans to act in the theater?
-ÞG: Definitely and definitely.
-Bilkent News: There are many other TV programs similar to yours that feature satirical sketches. How is yours different?
-ÞG: My program is based on absurd humor. We do work that is out of the ordinary. We don't copy someone or some particular program, we just satirize the logic of TV programs. There must be some gap that we filled, to have received so much attention.
-Bilkent News: You are known as a funny man. Did you ever think that it would affect the things (in both good and bad ways) that you would do in the future?
-ÞG: I am a funny man anyway. Humor needs genius. So, I don't think that I'll have any problems.
-Bilkent News: Who do you find funniest?
-ÞG: Peter Sellers, my producer and my manager Murat Toktamýþoðlu.
-Bilkent News: What would you be if you weren't an actor?
-ÞG: A genetic engineer.
-Bilkent News: Have you reached your goals?
-ÞG: What if I say I've reached them--then, what I will do in the future? Each time a goal is reached, it's time to aim for a new goal.
-Bilkent News: Last year when you came to Bilkent for the May Fest, you attracted a lot of attention. How did that feel?
-ÞG: It was quite strange, to attract so much attention in a place where I used to walk down the sidewalk and no one would be interested. I love my school anyway.
-Bilkent News: What if "Dikkat Þahan Çýkabilir" ends--do you have any plans in mind for afterwards?
-ÞG: Cinema and the theater. I'll be playing a role in a romantic comedy movie this summer, in cooperation with Dada Films and Tiglon.
-Bilkent News: Finally, do you have anything to say to students at Bilkent?
-ÞG: Think positively, and never give up.
