She is also the first
international signature member of the Collage Society. During her stay
in December, she will be visiting universities in Ohio to give
presentations about her own work as well as Turkish art in general.
Her work explores the
sea as a symbol, and demonstrates the complementary relationship between
the intaglio printmaking process and traditional Turkish marbleizing,
ebru. The ebru technique allows her to transfer paint floating on the
surface of water onto paper, while intaglio textures are attained by
passing paper placed on a metal plate through a press. These two opposed
techniques, one from the east and the other from the west, merge to
create a harmonious whole.
Veryeri Alaca's work is
represented at various museums in Italy, Poland, Georgia, Turkey and the
United States, including the Museum of Painting and Sculpture (İstanbul)
and Museo dell'Incisione-Costello dei Paleologi (Acqui Terme, Italy).
Here in Ankara, her original art works can be viewed at her solo show
opening at Galeri Nev on February 24, 2006.
