Enjoying Ice-Skating

Ice-skating is enjoyed by many people, both young and old, from all over Ankara. These skaters include a number of Bilkent students, some of whom started the sport at an early age. Others were introduced to this combination of athletics, dance and fun by Dr. Levent Tunalı of the Bilkent University Health Center, who teaches a skating course at Belpa (the skating rink in Bahçelieveler) for Bilkenters.

The Bilkent News talked to some of Bilkent's ice-skaters. Kaan Şahin (IR/PREP) has been skating since he began playing ice hockey at age 13. "Ice-skating helps you enjoy sports, and can raise your adrenaline level in an easy way," Şahin remarked.

Another student, Nil Korukürek (GRA/PREP), has been interested in ice-skating since she was a child. During her childhood, she took ballet lessons, as her parents wished. Now, as a Bilkent student, she is able to pursue her interest in skating by taking Dr. Tunalı's course, which she started seven months ago. "Ice-skating is not just an activity or a hobby for me, it's like a relaxing exercise where you leave everything behind you when you're on the ice," said Korukürek.

It may be spring, but you can continue to skate at Belpa's indoor rink! And whether you're a first-time skater or a triple-axle pro, you can develop your skating skills by attending the Bilkent ice-skating course there.
