Sixth PASO Student Film Festival Underway
Every year, many university students in Turkey produce motion pictures in the hope of contributing to the development of film art. Unfortunately, many of these films, each of which is the end product of intense effort and creativity, do not receive the opportunity of a screening and so cannot reach an audience. In response to this situation, a group of students from the Department of Communication and Design decided to establish the Paso Student Film Festival.
The sixth Paso Student Film Festival, organized by the Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, the Gazi University Faculty of Communication, the Başkent University Faculty of Communication, METU GISMA and the Ankara University Faculty of Communication, started on April 24 and will continue through April 30 at the German Cultural Center (the Goethe Institute) in downtown Ankara.
The idea behind the event is to screen student films in an environment free of conventional categories and competition.
During the Paso Student Film Festival, post-screening discussions and panels will accompany many of the films. While the discussions will enable the audience to exchange ideas with the filmmakers, the panels will address the broader issue of common problems faced by young filmmakers. If you are interested and would like to be a part of the Festival, you can check out the Paso website at www.pasofest.org.
