In cooperation with the Uygar Görme Engelliler Derneği,
the Bilkent University Görme Engelliler Eğitimi Projesi (GÖREP) started its activities
for the 2005-2006 academic year on Sunday, October 9. GÖREP members will again be working
with visually impaired high school students to help them prepare for the university
entrance exam. Members and students met on October 9 to plan their program for the coming
year. During the meeting, members decided to make some changes from the previous year. For
instance, this year, in accordance with the new university exam system, the group will
give sociology, logic and philosophy lessons in addition to Turkish, history, geography
and mathematics. Moreover, students who do well on tests will be rewarded with special
tutorials given on weekdays.
GÖREP now has
nearly 20 members from different departments. Using their experiences from the previous
year, the group members have prepared a special syllabus, which will enable them to work
more systematically with the high school students they are helping. For more information: gorep@yahoogroups.com.au
